1 of 2: Katyusha, Katyusha

Interesting poem by Sean O’Brien, written in response to the latest phase of conflict between Israel and Hamas:

 …about the poem:  http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2009/jan/02/poet-sean-obrien-writes-gaza-poem

And, in an op-ed piece titled “Inheriting Bush’s blinkers” by Ali Abunimah (co-founder of “The Electronic Intifada” and author of “One Country: A Bold Proposal to End the Israeli-Palestinian Impasse”), the writer suggests that Obama and American liberals readily adopt positions on Israel that they would deem extremist and racist in any other context:

…the last paragraph (will somebody please tell me Mr. Abunimah is wrong):

“There is no silver lining to Israel’s slaughter in Gaza, but the reactions to it should at least serve as a wake-up call: when it comes to the struggle for peace and justice in Palestine, the American liberal elites who are about to assume power present as formidable an obstacle as the outgoing Bush administration and its neoconservative backers.”
