Dear editor:
When Mr. Obama was running for president his slogan was “Change – Yes We Can,” and did our country ever change! Now, as he backs his Democrat followers on the campaign trail, the new slogan is “Moving America Forward.” Since Obama took office, his administration has plunged our nation into a $3.45 trillion debt and given us a health care bill that most Americans never wanted. How much more “down the tubes” do Democrats want our country to go before we become a socialist state?
I recently read about Obama’s agenda for the United States from Wayne Allen Root, one of his college classmates at Columbia University in 1989. I quote: “Barack Obama is no fool. He is not incompetent. To the contrary, he is brilliant. He knows exactly what he’s doing. He is purposely overwhelming the United States economy to create systematic failure, economic crisis and social chaos, thereby destroying capitalism and our country from within …”
I’m not the smartest person in the world, even though I know that a democracy is a government “of the people, by the people and for the people.” The citizens are in control and we elect state representatives to speak for us in government, not to take control. Like many people today, I did not quite understand the ramifications of what socialism is, so I looked it up in the dictionary. But that was not much help until someone told me plainly that it is a government-controlled citizenship. The people have no say-so about anything.
Thomas Sowell, a famous black journalist, gave an enlightened view about where our country is headed. I quote him here: “When Adolph Hitler was building up the Nazi movement in the 1920s leading up to his taking power in the 1930s, he deliberately sought to activate people who did not normally pay much attention to politics. Such people were a valuable addition to his political base, since they were particularly susceptible to Hitler’s rhetoric and had far less basis for questioning his assumptions or his conclusions.

In his latest book, “To Save America,” former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich made his most explosive allegations against President Obama’s policies which he characterizes as a creation of a secular socialist machine. He says that this machine represents as great a threat to America as Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union once did. “The Obama Administration is a direct threat to our liberty and a direct threat to the country we have historically been.”
I urge every Arkansan to get out and vote in November. If you want four more years of what has happened to our country – useless stimulus packages, pork-barrel spending, bailouts for crooked companies, no health care for the elderly, increased joblessness, additional debt, loss of freedom – then vote Democrat. But if you want less government interference in your life and jobs returning to Americans from overseas, you know how you should vote. Get informed about who is running, and vote your conscience because your future depends on it.
