Ed is the son of medical missionaries to Yemen and Gaza during the 50s, 60s, and 70s (I think). He went to school in Alexandria, then back here in the USA, and finally at the American International School near Tel Aviv — I think you’ll find a familiar perspective borne of his years “over there.” With his permission, here is a glimpse of life in Gaza and beyond that you may not find elsewhere.

Former CIA Director James Woolsey gave a talk at Princeton University last week. I decided not to attend, fearing that I might be unable to restrain myself from causing an ugly scene. But I am extremely pleased and proud to forward to you a letter written to the campus newspaper the next morning by a young Princeton sophmore (a girl, presumabnly 18 or 19 years old) protesting Mr. Woolsey’s speech in very strong and eloquent language. I have … [more]

Dear Apologist for Evil,
I can’t say it was wholly a pleasure to read your calculated mischaracterization of recent remarks related to unpleasant observations of the happily departed German bishops during their late great visit to apartheid Palestine:
According to you, all the suffering and misery of Palestinians is purely of their own making, and the Israeli military has … [more]

I can imagine that in Mr. Greenberg’s mind, any modern comparison to the Holocaust is tantamount to its diminution/dilution and therefore an insult to the Jews’ well-documented suffering. Also well-documented is the rage provoked by exposing the hypocrisy of Jewish nationalists. Just ask Jesus…
If Greenberg didn’t like your comments, I’m sure he’s thrilled with fellow Jew Norman Finkelstein, who equates the Holocaust with an “industry” designed to rake in billions of dollars in perpetuity. Arabs are supposed to get … [more]

Four years ago this week, I forwarded this now-prescient speech by Ray Close:
It’s a long read, but remarkable in how accurately he anticipated the problems that would arise from this administration’s folly. Well worth reading a second time (or a first, if you’re relatively new to this list).
I called Mr. Close this morning, after re-reading his speech. I was curious about a section in it where he more or less restates the administration’s spin on Iraq’s … [more]

Interesting history. Thank you very much. I’m curious, because it wasn’t mentioned in the article and perhaps wasn’t germane, but how much Baptist work in Israel/Palestine is with Jewish (secular and confessing) persons and how much is with non-Jewish (i.e., Arab Christians and Muslims and non-Arab visiting pilgrims/tourists) persons? What are the ratios? Maybe I’ve been misinformed, but I thought evangelical outreach to Jews was verboten in Israel.
Actually, I was a bit surprised that the Jerusalem Post even published … [more]

We left Beirut at 9 yesterday and were back 12 hours later. Drove to Sidon and checked in with the army to get permission to enter the occupation zone evacuated by the Israelis in 2000 and which is finally under Lebanese Army control. Then straight to Tyre, Jouwaya, Tibnine and Bint Jbeil. We saw things I never thought possible. Then on to Maroun el Ras and along the border to Marjayoun to visit family. Finally back through Nabatieh, Zahrani, … [more]
